What's Next for Kevin Mitchell?

Kevin Mitchell is not planning to give up being the chair of the communications department at the College of Southern Nevada anytime soon. He is happy serving in that capacity and says teaching is very rewarding. He does however have dreams of doing something more in the future when he has more time. “I hope to have my own podcast/YouTube channel when I’m not department chair,” Mitchell said. He realizes he needs a niche for such an endeavor, and he knows exactly what he would like to do. Mitchell says he would focus on his hobbies and interests. Those include tabletop war games like Dungeons and Dragons sometimes known as D&D, miniature 28 scale, and 3D printing. Mitchell is an avid D&D player and has an impressive collection of miniatures, some of which he has created himself. He also has a plethora of D&D dice and was happy to show off his collection. He does not have experience with 3D printing, but he is interested in that as well.

Mitchell knows there are people out there interested in these types of games and hobbies, but many are in need of a community where they can learn and collaborate. He would like to provide that community by producing podcasts and YouTube videos where he can highlight how to create the kind of miniatures used in games such as Dungeons and Dragons. He says he would like to “help people that are interested in this, but don’t have access to the community.” Mitchell feels that “gaming is a way to build communication skills” using a different method than standard education. He says that gaming and communication help “people learn and develop socially.”

The streaming and technical side of his future ambitions are also intriguing to Mitchell. He is extremely interested in YouTube’s super chat feature and would love to be able to utilize it someday. Super chat is a way to monetize a YouTube channel by allowing people to pay to boost or pin their comments to the top of the chat on a video or live feed. Mitchell is also interested in creating a YouTube channel that could be used as a clearing house of sorts where people could find links to other sites.

Kevin Mitchell is enthusiastic about education, communications, and gaming. He has proved to be successful in whatever he puts his mind to. It will be exciting to see where that takes him in the future.
